overheard: at a cello concert in Gozo, Malta
context: whilst performing on stage, a band of ingrates began setting off fireworks outside the concert hall, the cellist made this remark in response to the disturbance and continued playing louder and stronger

I was at the concert! The cellist was Daniel Veis, accompanied by his wife, pianist Helena Veisova. The piece was Beethoven’s Sonata in G Minor op 5 no 2. I can tell you they made mincemeat of the meatheads outside with their petards. But that’s Gozo for you, a tiny island of civility in a sea of ignorance.
